Monetary musings – 2020 year in review

As we enter the last few weeks of 2020, I want to take stock of how this blogging experiment has been faring.

I started this year with a simple objective, write consistently week after week. Looking back at the metrics, this consistency habit has paid off in spades. The post count for 2020 was 40 posts (almost one every week!) which is almost double the 22 posts written in 2019. In terms of page views this has been a stellar year, dare I say hockey stick growth! The page views for 2020 came in at ~12.5K YTD growing 3X over 2019 (4.1K views). Visitors also grew 2.7X to 7.1K visitors in 2020.

The referral sources haven’t changed significantly with LinkedIn and search being the major chunk for 2020. Substack is a new entrant to this list. I am super grateful to Nik over at This week at fintech, Giorgio over at fintechruminations and Lex over at The Fintech Blueprint for the support!

In terms of top posts, readers did prefer the deep dives over the more generic posts. The Merchant acquiring deep dive is the most read post of the year followed by the deep dive on the history of BNPL.

I haven’t set any major goals for next year for this blog, other than keep writing and try to get better at the craft of writing. I wrote my first collaborative post with Rohit on Upstart and had a real blast! and I hope to do more collabs in 2021. If there are any areas that you want me to dig deeper into or interesting folks to collab with – drop me a note, I am always on the hunt for good ideas to write about!

I’m off the grid for the holidays – cya in February 2021. I hope everybody has a good break and thanks for reading, I appreciate your support!
